Clearwater Junction Intersection Project discussion, June 16

GREENOUGH – The public is invited to attend one of two Virtual Open Houses June 16 at 12 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. to learn more about the Clearwater Junction Intersection study, provide comments and ask questions. The goal of this project is to reconfigure the intersection of Highway 83 and Highway 200 to improve safety and traffic flow for all highway users.

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and contracted engineering firm Robert Peccia & Associates are exploring improvement options for the intersection of Highway 200 and Highway 83, more commonly known as Clearwater Junction. A number of crashes have occurred here, and traffic congestion is common during the busy summer months.

In addition to local traffic, Clearwater Junction serves as a connection point for travelers from Helena, Great Falls, Missoula, the Flathead Valley and the numerous small towns in between. Thousands of tourists and commercial trucks travel through the intersection every day. Clearwater Junction is a popular stopping point for many travelers because of the access to fuel, a convenience store, MDT rest area, truck weigh station and the busiest watercraft inspection station in Montana.

Through a comprehensive, and data-driven analysis process, a wide range of intersection improvement options will be evaluated. Stakeholder and public feedback will be encouraged throughout all project phases to ensure MDT identifies a solution that best meets the traffic and safety needs of Clearwater Junction and all who travel through the area.

Before a final solution can be selected and constructed, the project team must study the feasibility of all improvement options for Clearwater Junction and nearby areas. This includes assessing consideration of cost, funding sources, timing, and both benefits and impacts to the area. The preliminary phase of the project is currently scheduled for completion in the fall of 2021. A final design and construction schedule will be determined following the analysis of all alternatives.

Two virtual open houses will be held via Zoom. Registration is required. Visit bitly.com/clearwaterjunction to register.

If unable to attend the meeting, comments can be provided by emailing Kristine@bigskypublicrelations.com, call the project hotline 406-207-4484 between 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday – Friday or visit bitly.com/clearwaterjunction
