Wildfire starts north of Seeley

SEELEY LAKE - An outbuilding and nearby private property located just north of the Clearwater Heights Condo complex burned in a wildland fire Wednesday, April 28. Seeley Lake Fire Chief Dave Lane said the possible cause is under investigation and that one person was transported for an undisclosed reason.

Kate Jerman, Public Affairs Officer for the Lolo National Forest, said that a call for the fire was made at 6:31 p.m. There is joint response jurisdiction in the area which means that Seeley Lake Ranger District firefighters share fire response duties with the Seeley Lake Fire Department.

The Seeley Lake Fire Department was on scene at 6:43 p.m. while Seeley Lake Ranger District firefighters arrived at approximately 7 p.m. The fire was contained by 10:18 p.m. and was subsequently placed into patrol and mop-up status.

The fire's affected area was approximately an acre. The land and structure were both privately owned.

At peak staffing there was 14 local fire department and Forest Service firefighting personnel on scene.

Seeley Lake District Ranger Quinn Carver said in an email that the incident was a good demonstration of a coordinated effort between the Seeley Lake Fire Department and firefighters from the Seeley Lake Ranger District.

"This is a good reminder that wildfires can happen early in the season, and to be careful with any and all sources of potential ignition," Carver said.
