Area churches reach out to community during Holy Week

SEELEY LAKE - The week leading up to Easter, six area churches joined in a cooperative effort and distributed a DVD of the "Jesus" film along with Easter goodies to 300 families in the Seeley Lake area. The intent of the project was to bring a message of hope to residents in Seeley Lake and serve as an invitation for residents to reach out to the various churches for help and assistance.

Volunteer with the project Phyllis Campbell said the local Christian community has been praying for ways to reach out to the Seeley Lake community. They want everyone that lives in the area to know the churches of Seeley Lake stand together offering support, love and assistance, whether that is for firewood, transportation, counseling either spiritual or other, or other challenges facing individuals in the community.

"We need to touch people. We wanted people to know that, even in their need, they are loved," said Campbell. "It is how we have been praying for a couple of years and it was just time."

The Jesus Film Project is an international outreach with the mission to share the story of Jesus through film. The film "Jesus" is the story of Jesus of Nazareth based on the Gospel of Luke. The DVD includes the movie in eight languages and a bonus feature, "Jesus: Through Children's Eyes."

Faith Chapel, Mission Bible Fellowship, Holy Cross Lutheran, Mountain Lakes Presbyterian, Clearwater Alliance and Seeley Lake Baptist churches worked together gathering supplies, packing bags with the DVD, Easter candy and cards with information about the various churches, making deliveries and praying for the project.

"Everyone that worked on the project was blessed," said Campbell. "This was a project that was hopefully joining the Christian churches together."

If a family did not receive a copy of the "Jesus" film and would like one, they are asked to call one of the area churches. They have ordered 100 more.
