Blackhawks defeat Lynx, drop close games to Tigers and Prospectors

SEELEY LAKE - The Seeley-Swan Blackhawks headed to Lincoln to take on the Lynx Feb. 4, hosted the Darby Tigers Feb. 5 and finished their week at Philipsburg taking on the Prospectors Feb. 6.

The Blackhawks came out shooting against the Lynx putting them down 21 to 4 in the first quarter. They never let up with a final score of 60-25.

Sawyer Shelmerdine led the Blackhawks with 17 points from 8 baskets and a free throw. Chase Haines had a pair of three pointers on his way to 10 points. Nick Little Coyote and Jason James each went 2 for 2 from the free throw line.

Also scoring: Seth Richardson 9, Klayton Kovatch 8, Little Coyote 4, James 4, Jalen Kauffman 4 and Cannon Hawkinson 4.

The Blackhawks and Prospectors battled early in the game. The game was tied after the first quarter and the Blackhawks trailed by 5 at the half.

Early in the third quarter Ben Haley sunk a pair of free throws and broke away for a layup to bring the Blackhawks within a point of the Prospectors but they soon pulled ahead again.

In the final quarter the Blackhawks made another run at the Prospectors. Oskar Murphy and Chase Haines each drained three-pointers to help cut an 8-point gap down to one point but the Blackhawks stalled out. The Prospectors scored a pair of unanswered baskets and the Blackhawks fell 39-44.

Haines led the Blackhawks with 13 points, 9 of those coming from three-pointers. Shelmerdine was close behind with 11 points. Murphy hit a pair of three-pointers and a layup for 8 points in the game while Haley added 4 and James 3.

The Blackhawks had another hard fought game taking on the Tigers. The Tigers took an early lead but the Blackhawks fought their way back to regain it heading into the fourth quarter. They couldn't fend off the Tigers and fell 35-40.

Just three Blackhawks scored in the game. Shelmerdine led the way with 14 while James had 11 and Haines had 10.

The Blackhawks have one game this week on the road in Victor Feb. 11. No visiting team fans are allowed.
