Swan Song
SWAN VALLEY - Alan Lee Childs, 77, born Aug. 11, 1943 died of natural causes on Nov. 19.
Alan was born in Browning, Montana but grew up in Libby, Montana with his parents Dorothy and Lee Childs. He joined the Navy in 1963 where he became an Engineman and a Certified Diver. He attended Submarine School and became an underwater welder where he salvaged sunken ships from the ocean. He was honorably discharged in 1969.
Alan moved to Havre shortly afterward and worked for Rocky Mountain Packing Company as a butcher and also for BNSF for several years. Havre is where he met his future ex-wife, Patricia Childs.
After 12 blissful years and the birth of his only child Angela, Alan moved to Condon, Montana where he lived out the rest of his life owning and operating a small post and pole yard. He lived most of 35 years spending his days with Mary, enjoying the fresh mountain air fishing and picking huckleberries, growing beautiful tomatoes, drinking beer and watching football from the comfort of his home. Alan occasionally mumbled about his grandsons making a mess out of the shavings pile but all in the name of love. He enjoyed their visits and the steaks they brought to BBQ on his outdoor grill.
Alan was preceded in death by his father Lee Childs of Libby, mother Dorothy Gibson of Libby and brother Warren Childs.
He is survived by his daughter, Angela Childs of Havre, three grandsons, his sister Kathy Powell of Libby, stepdaughter Tiffany Olsen of Havre, Montana and stepson Gerald Wood of Portland, Oregon.
A memorial will be held at a later date.
