Seeley Lake Chiropractic welcomes Dr. Michela Reese

SEELEY LAKE - Dr. Michela Reese will become Seeley Lake Chiropractic's new chiropractor towards the beginning of next year. She said she has not yet finalized the date she will begin but she intends for it to be sometime after Jan. 6.

Her goals for her patients are to provide them with healthy biomechanics to eliminate their pain and discomfort as well as provide them with rehabilitation plans to prevent future injuries. For herself, she strives to consistently use evidence-based research to provide patients with accurate diagnoses and up-to-date treatment techniques.

She currently works in Denver but will initially move to Missoula once she begins her position.

Reese grew up in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and later went on to work as a ski coach at Fernie Alpine Resort in British Columbia. After she experienced several injuries requiring treatment, she decided to pursue a Kinesiology degree at the University of Lethbridge which she received in 2015. She moved to the U.S. in 2016 in order to earn her Doctor of Chiropractic degree from the University of Western States in Portland, Oregon in 2019.

Reese said the orthopedic surgeries she experienced made her interested in the proactive side of care and how injuries can be avoided whenever possible.

She decided to take on the position in Seeley Lake so she could be more independent when taking the necessary steps towards developing her own practice. In addition, she and her husband wanted to be closer to home.

"I really wanted to be able to get out on my own and do something in my own way, so this opportunity was kind of perfect, because it's an associateship to own the practice," she said. "I found an opportunity, jumped on it and can't be more excited to get up there."

Seeley Lake Chiropractic will continue to be owned by Dr. Jeff Engel in Missoula, but he will no longer be practicing in Seeley Lake. Reese will take over as the new provider.

Reese uses diversified techniques, cupping and muscle activation techniques for treatment. Cupping is when suction is used to separate fascia layers from muscles in order to break down adhesions and draw blood flow to the area.

She also uses functional fitness and gait analysis to further specify a client's ailments. Gait analysis studies one's movements while walking or running to see if there are any faulty patterns. This helps determine the exact source of physical problems.

Reese also received her animal chiropractic care certification from Options for Animals in Wellsville, Kansas and the International Veterinary Chiropractic Association earlier this year. She said that the biggest difference between treating animals and humans is that animals are unable to express what they are actually feeling. Therefore, she uses different evaluation techniques to notice specific ailments or issues. The treatment is also more gentle.

She intends to bring these services to Seeley Lake, but she has to complete an exam for Montana which is currently on hold due to COVID-19.

An opportunity to meet Reese will be available during the office's Open House event from 12 - 5 p.m. on Dec. 8. There they will offer $20 adjustments and patients can spin a wheel of prizes for the chance at the grand prize. There is a 40 person capacity throughout the event so those interested should RSVP by calling (406) 317-1014.

Seeley Lake Chiropractic is located at 3027 Highway 83 Suite L in the Lazy Pine Mall. Reese's hours are not yet solidified but she believes that she will be available on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Those interested in contacting her should email her at michela.reese@gmail.com or make an appointment by calling (406) 677-3617.
