iRide and caregiver programs enhance lives

A Note from Linda

This September I'd like to highlight three excellent programs available to us which can enhance our lives and those we care for.

First, Missoula Aging Services is offering two Virtual Caregiver Support Groups which offer a safe place for caregivers to share experiences, advice and practical strategies for managing caregiver responsibilities during the pandemic. All caregivers are welcome, including dementia caregivers.

You can participate online or by phone using ZOOM. The evening support group meets the second Monday of every month from 4-5 p.m. The afternoon support group meets on the third Tuesday of each month from 1-2 p.m. There is no cost to participate. Pre-registration is required and is first come, first served. To register call Missoula Aging Services at 406-728-7682 or go online at https://missoulaagingservices.eventbrite.com.

Second, is a course called Powerful Tools for Caregivers®, which uses an evidenced-based curriculum, designed to help family and community caregivers learn to take better care of themselves and manage their stress while caring for a relative, friend or client. One participates online or by phone using ZOOM.

Classes meet on Tuesdays, Sept. 15 through Oct. 20, from 2:30-4:30 p.m. The cost is $30, or $50 for two people; no-cost and reduced-cost tickets are also available. Pre-registration is required and is first come, first served. To register call Missoula Aging Services at 406-728-7682 or go online at https://missoulaagingservices.eventbrite.com .

Third, is the I RIDE Seeley Lake Van Service available for local older adults and people with disabilities. Rides are provided to medical appointments in Seeley Lake or Missoula Monday-Friday, between the hours of 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. The round-trip cost to Seeley-Swan Medical Center, Rejuvenate Physical Therapy or Seeley-Swan Pharmacy is $2; $10 is the round-trip to Missoula.

Since all drivers are volunteers, rides are scheduled by appointment only. You may call the dispatcher at 406-916-7860 Wednesday – Friday between 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. to schedule your ride or for more information.

The I Ride program serves a rapidly growing group of residents in Seeley Lake and currently needs additional drivers. If you are looking for a rewarding opportunity to serve your community, consider becoming an I Ride driver! Please contact Yvonne Kinsey at 406-677-3506 for details.

Please enjoy this lovely fall and stay safe.

Sincerely, Linda
