In the Letter to the Editor entitled “More empathy required in reporting” by Leslie Lee Aug. 27 she states, “The article “Pulling Your Hair Out” published Aug. 13, 2020 about trichotillomania contains inaccuracies that should be clarified. This is a debilitating disorder, and to refer to it as something people do because their plans fell apart [furthers stigma and shame] that prevent people from seeking help.”
Accurately (and without the above prejudicial terms), it misinformed.
“Stigma and shame” (in the above response) add to the misinformation; both malign and harm.
