Cakes for Canines huge success

SEELEY LAKE – While delayed for a month due to the coronavirus, the annual Cakes for Canines donation breakfast was a huge success again this year. All proceeds support Paws Up Safe Home Animal Shelter in Potomac.

"People were very generous," said Operator Hazel Tyler. "We saw a lot of friends and saw a lot of people that we hadn't seen because of COVID-19. Everyone seemed to have a good time, I know I did."

In addition to the pancake, bacon and egg breakfast, there were items to bid on and a raffle. Trecia Pace donated four potholder sets and Louise Cameron donated a lap quilt that raised money at the event. They also sold tickets for a raffle of a donated thread painting that Jo Ogden hand embroidered of her husky. That raffle will continue through the summer with all proceeds going to benefit the shelter.

This year, the event raised $3,001 for the shelter and another $150 was donated following the event. The funds will be used to pay for the shelter's insurance and support the 21 dogs and six cats at the shelter.

"A huge thank you to Connie and Tim," said Tyler. "It is amazing what they do – they donated the food, the restaurant, their time and even the tips were thrown in the donation jar. They took absolutely nothing and they just grinned from ear to ear because they could do it."

Tyler also thanked everyone who came out to eat. "It makes a difference when people care enough to come out during COVID to sit down and have something to eat at a restaurant."
