The treasure of God's Word

My favorite online used bookstore recently shared about the all kinds of treasures that have been found left inside used books. Over the years, as they have sorted and cataloged used books, they have discovered a wide variety of items left hidden in the pages of used books.

The biggest treasure was a bundle of 40 $1,000 bills. Also found was a Mickey Mantle rookie baseball card, a marriage certificate from 1879, a diamond ring and a baby's tooth.

None of these interesting and valuable objects can compare to what we discover and understand from God's Word. We also know that what we come to understand from the Bible is a treasure.

God has made scripture clear and understandable for the purpose that we each would come to know His message to us, to know His protection and provision and to treasure the Bible more than any other message within our lives.

We see the clarity of God's commands from the very beginning, that every believer can understand God's Words and live out faithfulness to God's instructions.

In the book of Deuteronomy we see God's preparation and reminder to the people to stay rooted daily in God's commands, we also read: Deuteronomy 30:11-14 (NIV) "Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. It is not up in heaven, so that you have to ask, "Who will ascend into heaven to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?" Nor is it beyond the sea, so that you have to ask, "Who will cross the sea to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?" No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it."

This is the clarity of the Bible. What God gives us through the Bible is not beyond our reach or too difficult. God has clearly put His Word in front of us that we would obey it.

God does not want us to fumble around in life uncertain of what the truth is. We are given the blessing to not have to search for the truth. The words of Deuteronomy show us this...being able to understand God's instruction is not an insurmountable task. How amazing that God's Word is near us, in our mouths and then in our hearts to obey God's wonderful instructions. This is truly a treasure!
