CORRECTION

In the caption under the photo of the young grizzly bear, we incorrectly identified Kathy Koors as a bear manager. Her correct title is Bear Ranger. While her title was correct in the article, the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks bear manager for the Swan is Tim Manley and for the Blackfoot/Clearwater area is James Jonkel.

Grizzly Claw Scholarship available for graduating seniors

SEELEY LAKE - Graduating Seeley-Swan High School seniors are encouraged to apply for the Grizzly Claw Trading Book Fund College Scholarship. Every year the Grizzly Claw awards a scholarship to a motivated student who is college or trade school bound.

To apply, submit a short essay including goals and aspirations and future plans related to goals. Please drop off a written copy at the Grizzly Claw on Highway 83, email it to mail@grizzlyclawtrading.com or turn it in to Shawn Holmes at SSHS.

Potomac School eighth grade graduation

POTOMAC – Potomac School will be holding an in-person graduation for their eighth grade and kindergarten graduates June 12. The Graduation Ceremony Operation Plan was approved by the Missoula City-County Health Department for both the eighth grade and kindergarten graduation ceremonies May 21.

This ceremony will be held outdoors at the Potomac Athletic Field. It is a closed ceremony by invitation only. Each eighth grade student is allowed to invite up to 10 guests and the ceremony cannot exceed 130 people. The kindergartners can invite up to five guests and the ceremony cannot exceed 75 people.

More details regarding health and safety requirements will be provided to the students and their guests.

Mission Bible Kids Camp in June and July

SEELEY LAKE - Mission Bible Fellowship will be offer a Mission Bible Kids Camp as a substitute for their annual Vacation Bible School. This will be a 4 day event. Activities will include games, music, crafts, snacks and Bible stories. We will be limiting registration to 10 kids per camp. This will take place outside at the parsonage (the Wilson’s home).

The dates of the camps include: Camp 1, June 8-11 from 1-3 p.m. for 8-12 year olds; Camp 2, June 22-25 from 1-3 p.m. for 5-7 year olds; Camp 3, July 13-16 from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. for 5-7 year olds; Camp 4, July 13-16 from 1-3 p.m. for 8-12 year olds.

Hospital District vacancy

SEELEY LAKE - Missoula County Commissioners are currently seeking applicants to fill a new three-year term on the Seeley Lake-Swan Valley Hospital District board. The term runs from June 1, 2020, to May 31, 2023. Those interested in serving on the board must live within the hospital district boundaries, apply online at https://boards.missoulacounty.us/apply/ and interview with the Board of County Commissioners, pursuant to MCA 7-34-2117(3). The deadline to submit applications is 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 17.

The purpose of the hospital district is to provide coordinated, comprehensive and efficient preventive and rehabilitative health care benefits to the residents of the Seeley Lake-Swan Valley Hospital District under the laws of the state of Montana. The board provides local medical facilities (Seeley Swan Health Center), which are staffed by medical professionals who can carry out all necessary medical procedures, appropriate under the circumstances.

Weekly COVID-19 update

As of May 25, there are 479 cases of COVID-19 in Montana. Governor Steve Bullock reported the 17th death due to COVID-19 complications Tuesday, May 26. The individual was from Yellowstone County.

Missoula County has had 41 cases. There has been one death and 40 recoveries. There are currently no active cases.
