James "Jim" C. Banes

Swan Song

SEELEY LAKE - James "Jim" C. Banes, of Seeley Lake, left this world peacefully in his sleep Tuesday, May 12, 2020. He was 64. As strong a man as he was, those who knew him well, knew of the painful physical struggle he had endured. For more than two years there were medications, hospital stays and too many high hopes and failed procedures. Jim just got tired.

Jim grew up in California. He joined the Navy and was stationed out on the submarine USS Dixon. After the Navy he mostly worked as a long haul truck driver. He loved being on the road until he started delivering to Seeley Lake.

About 25 years ago he decided to make Seeley his home. He worked at Rovero's, did carpentry work and he drove for 15 years for Energy Partners before he retired. He also entertained everyone as the karaoke host at the Filler. Jim's hobbies and passions were dancing with Grace, NASCAR, Raider Nation, "fixin" things, hunting gophers, Rock-n-Roll, boating, drinking beer, visiting with family and friends and playing pool. He was the Captain of the Filling Station pool team for 13 years.

Living in the town of Seeley Lake brought joy to Jim. He loved everyone and they couldn't help but love him back. He is survived by the many friends that he considered his family, his adopted family Butterworth/Welch, his godchild Sam and above all his soul mate and the love of his life Grace. Her heart is broken yet filled with all of the love and memories of their 15 years together.

In lieu of flowers there are two things that you can do to honor Jim. Don't drink and drive and learn how to drive in the snow. Jim would have wanted us all to stay out of the ditch. If you choose not to, you will just have to find someone else to pull you out.

God speed Jim. This world was made better because you were in it. Thank you.

Live Long and Prosper

A Celebration of Life will take place at the Filling Station in the near future and the date will be posted in the Pathfinder.
