Citizen input sought for elk management plan

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is seeking 10 to 12 individuals to serve as a statewide citizens group to collaboratively provide guidance for the new Montana Elk Management Plan.

The group will be tasked with developing an issue statement about elk management and define meaningful and enduring principles that may guide future elk management decisions. The citizens group will represent a variety of stakeholders. Meetings will be facilitated to maintain objectivity, productivity and provide guidance.

The Elk Management Plan Initial Guidance Citizens Group will provide overarching elk management guidance for the entire state of Montana and will not be tasked with making specific decisions regarding management tools, regional/hunting district specific strategies or writing the Elk Management Plan. Once the citizens group has completed this task, the group will disband and future steps in the planning process will use broader public input to inform decisions.

Interested individuals must be willing to commit to two multi-day meetings during the summer of 2020. Applications are online at  http://fwp.mt.gov/fishAndWildlife/management/elk/ or paper applications are available upon request by calling 406-444-2612. Group members will be selected by FWP director Martha Williams with input from staff.

Applications must be received no later than May 25. For more information call 406-594-8278 or email FWPWLD@mt.gov
