Sharing love of art while adapting to new norm

SEELEY LAKE - The stay at home order couldn't have come at a better time for local artist Kris Gullikson at her Uncorked and Creative Studio in Seeley Lake. Though the learning curve has been steep, she is now ready to help everyone's creativity come out and play. She has opened Pandora's Box in a good way and is now able to supply and teach art to kids, adults or families during these trying times.

Gullikson has been painting for 30 years and has a Graphic Arts degree from Colorado Institute of Art. She has been teaching step-by-step painting lessons for five years.

Four years ago she started teaching the Friday night Uncorked and Creative event as part of the Painting for a Dream two-day resident workshops at the Rich Ranch. Her goal was to raise more money for the student art scholarships.

"I enjoyed it so much I decided to take it to my studio during the winter to engage more interest. In turn I hoped those folks would eventually feel comfortable coming to the workshops at the Rich Ranch!" wrote Gullikson in an email. "That part has been working and I've raised quite a bit of money for the scholarship fund."

Through the process, she created a website to display her art and classes. She has learned all about Zoom, YouTube and Occasion (a booking app). She started reformatting her lessons to reach her customers remotely. She also realized that some of her customers had children at home so they weren't available to paint with her at 6 p.m. on Friday night.

To accommodate this new norm, Gullikson first thought recording the lessons would work allowing her customers to complete them anytime. She continued to expand the idea adding a supplies kit for the project. Gullikson said that is when she had an epiphany.

"Why any restrictions at all? Now it's wide open," wrote Gullikson.

Gullikson would love to share her love of painting with you at home. She is ready to help you create pieces unique to you and your children. No challenge is too big. Her motto is now - Paint YOUR WAY, at YOUR PACE and in your OWN PLACE

For more information contact Gullikson at 241-1209, book online at http://uncorkedandcreative.com or find "Uncorked Painting Classes" on Facebook. Art kits are available for pick up in town or can be picked up at her studio by the Seeley Lake Airport.

"I wanted to bring the joy of painting to more individuals in our area!" wrote Gullikson. "I'll do whatever it takes to get this up and running and keep my customers and hopefully attract new ones in the process."
