Seeley Lake Senior Center cancels activites, take out and Meals on Wheels still available

SEELEY LAKE - In a meeting with the Seeley Lake Senior Center (Sela Senci) board of directors and Rob Edwards, Missoula Aging Services Community Services Director, the group laid out a plan to minimize risk as much as possible while continuing to provide meals to their members 60 years and older. They are looking for volunteers willing to help prepare meals and drivers to deliver.

Based on the guidance from Governor Steve Bullock to limit contact, as of Thursday, March 19 the congregate meals and all social activities including cards, Mexican Train and Bingo at Sela Senci have been cancelled until further notice. However they are offering take out meals when ordered ahead and the Meals on Wheels program will continue.

Due to the Hungry Bear closing per the directive from the Missoula City-County Health Department, senior meals are not available in Condon until further notice.

Seeley Lake Senior Center members are asked to call 677-2008 the night before and leave a message to order a meal. In the message indicate how many meals are being ordered and what time between 10:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. the meals will be picked up. Volunteers will meet the client at the door with the meals packaged and ready. Packaging must be disposed of by the client because it can not be reused.

Meals on Wheels will continue to operate with uninterrupted service. To sign up for Meals on Wheels, please call MAS Resource Specialist Linda Howard at 406-541-7688 for an application.

If anyone 60 or older or those that are home bound in the Swan Valley are in need of food, they are asked to contact Howard for resources.

Sela Senci is expecting an increased demand during this fluid time. They are recruiting volunteers in the community that would be willing to help cook, package and deliver meals. Please call Howard if you are able and willing to volunteer.

For questions or more information contact Sela Senci, 677-2008 or Howard, 406-541-7688. While Howard is unable to meet in person, she is available via phone Monday - Friday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. in Seeley Lake.

If interested in becoming a member of Sela Senci please contact President Boyd Gossard, 210-1661 or Annie Marron, 677-0216.
