Community invited to virtual preparedness conversation, March 26

SEELEY LAKE – The public is invited to engage in a live-streamed Conversation on Preparedness Thursday, March 26 from 5:30 - 8 p.m. Tune in to a panel discussion via the Seeley Swan Pathfinder Facebook page and submit questions through the Facebook chat window. There will also be an opportunity to comment on a proposed Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC) system for the Seeley Lake Historical Museum and Visitor’s Center (Barn).

The conversation is sponsored by the Double Arrow Landowners Association and will be facilitated by Thomas Kutchai, a resident on the Double Arrow Ranch with extensive preparedness experience.

Kutchai was a detective with the Miami Police Department for 12 years. He started a week before Hurricane Andrew hit in 1992. He worked for seven days a week, 12 hours a day in the aftermath of the Category 5 hurricane that was the most destructive hurricane to ever hit Florida in terms of structures damaged or destroyed.

Kutchai learned first hand the value of preparedness. He saw the importance of people having fresh water and food security. He watched as people took steps to become self-sufficient, like purchasing a generator, however underestimated how much fuel they needed for it to operate. Once their fuel reserves ran out the generator was useless in the absence of gas stations.

Since his work with the Miami Police Department, Kutchai’s interest has grown about how to be prepared. He has spent the last 15 years learning more about the topic and looks forward to sharing his knowledge with the community.

The community is encouraged to tune in from their home and learn how they can be better prepared and self sufficient while facing uncertainty in the environment. Kutchai invited local law enforcement, emergency personnel, local and county officials to participate in the conversation and provide additional resources. Attendees will be invited to share their questions, comments and concerns via Facebook chat during the event.

Gary Miller from the Barn Board will also take the opportunity to take public comment on an HVAC upgrade for the Barn and any environmental concerns they may have. The board will be submitting an application for a grant to do the upgrade.

Look for a detailed agenda for the event to be printed in the March 26 issue and posted on the Seeley Swan Pathfinder’s Facebook page.
