Sit back and enjoy the show

This is a response to last week’s letter to the editor from Joan, regarding her response to an article the previous week regarding the impeachment proceedings.

While I respect you both and acknowledge that both articles were passionately written, written according to both of your beliefs, I would suggest that it may be time in this country for us all to just step back and take a deep breath.

I am neither taking a position to defend the president, nor the Democratic party for attempting to impeach him. As to our Constitution, I suggest we leave that in the hands of constitutional scholars on both sides, who themselves are struggling for a correct interpretation.

When men like Alan Dershowitz, - a Democrat, a scholar and a constitutional law professor at Harvard - Jay Sekulow - a man for whom I have great respect, and a man who has argued many cases before the Supreme Court (successfully I might add) - and others carry on a debate in the US Senate, let us step back. I suggest we leave this subject to those far more qualified to debate this than either you or I.

As much as we would like to make this a Constitutional debate, I fear it is rather a political debate, and thus one upon which neither side can agree. Jesus once said, “A house divided cannot stand.” If we are therefore to have peace, it must be through prayer and leaving matters like this for God to ultimately settle.

God has said, “Your ways are not my ways, nor your thoughts my thoughts.” After 80 years on this Earth I have found these truths sufficient to lead a peaceful life.

I love you both. Sit back, love one another, relax and enjoy the show for that is what it is.
