Seeley-Swan racks up the wins

SEELEY LAKE – The Seeley-Swan Lady Blackhawks and Blackhawks each added a pair of wins to their records last week on the road facing Valley Christian Jan. 24 and Granite Jan. 25. The Boys’ season record now stands at 11-1 while the Ladies have a 10-2 season record.

The Lady Blackhawks decimated Valley Christian, holding them to two or less baskets per quarter. The final score was 59-13.

Klaire Kovatch sunk 10 baskets and a free throw to lead the Lady Blackhawks with 21 points. Emily Maughan, Sariah Maughan, Terra Bertsch and Bethany Hoag each had three-pointers.

The Ladies played a clean game committing just 8 fouls giving Valley just a single free throw attempt.

Also scoring: Hoag 8, Sariah 7, Aspen Conley 6, Emily 5, Bertsch 4, Kara Good 2, Hannah Ayers 2, Trista Wendel 2 and Kinley Moore 2.

The Lady Blackhawks came out swinging against Granite. Good sunk a three-pointer in the opening seconds to get the Ladies going and followed it up with another pair of three-pointers by the end of the first quarter to help take a 22-8 lead.

The teams traded shots through the middle of the game and really heated up in the final frame with the teams scoring more than 20 points each. The final score was 65-52.

Kovatch had another great game scoring 19 points, 11 of which came in the final quarter. Bertsch had a season high of 9 assists.

In addition to Good’s three-pointers, Emily, Kyla Conley and Aspen each had three pointers as well.

Lady Blackhawks: 10, 11, 21, 17 - 59

Valley Christian: 5, 4, 2, 2 - 13

Lady Blackhawks: 22, 10, 11, 22 - 65

Granite: 8, 13, 10, 21 - 52

The Boys had a solid game against Valley Christian outscoring them two to one in the first three frames and cruised to a 69-40 victory.

Owen Mercado led the Blackhawks with 29 points followed by Sawyer Shelmerdine with a not too shabby 16 points. Quinlan Ream joined Mercado and Shelmerdine in hitting one three-pointer each.

Also scoring: Ream 7, Walker McDonald 7, Dakota Wood 4, Brayden Rodriguez 4 and Chase Haines 2.

Granite put up a little more fight but the Blackhawks stuck to their guns and outshot Granite throughout the whole game for the win 67-51.

Mercado matched his season high of 34 points including 8 two-pointers, a pair of three’s and 12 of 18 attempted free throws. Shelmerdine stuck in 6 baskets and one free throw for 13 points while Haines broke into the double digits with a pair of two-pointers and a pair of threes for 10 points.

Also scoring: Ream 5, McDonald 3 and Wood 2.

The Blackhawks and Lady Blackhawks have a pair of home games this week taking on Clark Fork Jan. 31 with JV Girls starting at 3:30 p.m. and no Boys JV. They then host St. Regis for varsity only games Feb. 1 with the Ladies starting at 4:30 p.m.
