Community ice skating rink open for the winter

SEELEY LAKE – Seeley Lake ROCKS was busy the past couple of weeks putting up the Community Ice Rink at Seeley Lake Elementary. The rink is open for skating over the winter break.

This year ROCKS expanded the rink, added a light to allow for evening skating and they hope to bring in a portable shed to house the skates.

ROCKS expanded the rink adding 50 feet to the length making it 150 feet by 60 feet.

"It will be better for lots of different activities and just for pure skating," said ROCKS ice rink committee member Garry Swain.

Missoula Electric Cooperative installed a light pole this fall. ROCKS installed a light that will light the rink until around 8:30 p.m. allowing the opportunity to skate into the evening.

ROCKS currently has around 15 pairs of skates that are available for community use. They are hoping to get twice as many this season. The skates will be stored in the dugout until the 12-foot by 20-foot mobile shed is moved to the property for the winter. This will be open and available for the community to use.

The use of the rink is free. Shovels are available to help maintain the ice.

ROCKS invites the community to enjoy the rink and asks that skaters clean up after themselves, removing trash and keeping the skates neat. There will be a portable toilet available onsite for those using the rink.

Watch the Pathfinder for upcoming events on the rink.
