Blackhawks' season underway

RONAN – The Seeley-Swan Blackhawks Boys took on Arlee and Frenchtown’s JV at last week’s Western Tip-Off Tournament.

The Boys came out strong against Arlee in the opening quarter leading by 3 points but the Warriors slipped by in the second quarter outscoring the Blackhawks 13 to 6. The Blackhawks nearly matched the Warriors in the second half but could never regain the lead and fell 46-52.

Owen Mercado racked up 24 points for the Blackhawks including hitting a pair of three pointers and shooting 6 for 7 from the free throw line. Dakota Wood added 9 points and Quinlan Ream hit a pair of three pointers for 6 points. Walker McDonald and Sawyer Shelmerdine rounded out the scoring with 4 and 3 respectively.

The Blackhawks flew past Frenchtown JV outscoring them 2 to 1 in the first quarter to take a 9-point lead. They blew the game out in the third quarter outscoring Frenchtown 17 to 3. The final score was 50-33

Mercado put in 9 baskets for two points each, a pair of three pointers and 5 free throws for 29 points. Shelmerdine and Ream each had 8 points and McDonald had 5.

The Blackhawks next game is Dec. 14 at Plains.
