Leos Club breaks $1,000 mark in annual Turkey Drive

SEELEY LAKE – The Seeley Lake Leos Club hosted their third annual Turkey Drive Nov. 22. The Club raised more than $1,300 for the Seeley-Swan Community Food Bank this year. While no turkeys were donated, this is the first year the community donated more than $1,000 towards the effort.

The Turkey Drive started in 2017. For the past two years, the Club has raised around $750 and collected 10 turkeys the first year and six the second year.

This year, nine Seeley-Swan High School Leos Club members collected donations at Rovero's, the Seeley Lake Post Office and Cory's Valley Market throughout the day Nov. 22. Leos Club advisor Mary Stone was amazed that they were able to collect $1,333.41 for the Food Bank.

"Our community seems to be more giving and community-centered than it has been in the past," said Stone. "Thanks to Rovero's, the Post Office and Cory's Valley Market for allowing us to use space in their business and thanks to the community for your incredible generosity."

Food Bank President Karen Montgomery echoed that the community has been very generous this year. Donations to the Food Bank are higher than normal and thanks to some very large donations, the Food Bank was able to purchase a commercial freezer.

"A great big thank you to the kids for what they do and for Mary because she keeps them all in line," said Montgomery. "I think it is fantastic. This will go to good use."
