Are you ready?

In the past, God has always provided the subject well in advance when I write an article for the Pathfinder. This time He waited until it was nearly due and it came in the form of an email from an old friend.

In my US Air Force days I was stationed in Japan for about three years in the early 1970s at which time I attended the base chapel and taught adult Bible classes. My wife and I became close friends with another couple by the name of Tom and Cathy. I have maintained occasional contact with them over the years and it was from Tom that I received a recent email.

I knew Tom’s health was not the best but his announcement of only having six months to live was a shock to say the least. Tom is now facing the final event in his life that all of us will face at some time. Tom is a solid Christian and strongly professes Christ as his Lord and Savior without reservation. He is ready to depart this earth and spend eternity with the God of the universe.

So, my question to all of you: Are you ready? Few of us know the exact time or place for our earthly departure but that is immaterial. Have you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior?

The Bible makes it very plain that we must accept Jesus in order to be saved, meaning you will spend eternity with God in heaven.

I particularly like the scripture provided in Romans 10:9 which states: “If you confess with your mouth that “Jesus is Lord” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Another meaningful scripture is Ephesians 2:8,9. “For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man boast.”

Understand that salvation is a gift of God. There are no clubs to join, no dues, no physical test, no amount of work…nothing will give you salvation except believing in Jesus as your Lord and Savior. This must be done prior to your death.

ARE YOU READY?
