Applicants sought for Greenough-Potomac Fire Service Area Board

POTOMAC - The Greenough-Potomac Fire Service Area Board has one vacant term that runs through May 31, 2021. All applicants must live within the fire service area boundaries. At the end of the term, if the commissioner-appointed member wishes to continue serving, they must file as a candidate in the 2021 Missoula County school/special district election to serve a new three-year term. The board meets monthly at 7:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday at Station 2, 30039 Potomac Road.

The five-member board of trustees appoints the fire chief, governs and provides guiding leadership, policy and funding oversight to the Greenough-Potomac Volunteer Fire Department. The fire department is comprised solely of volunteers who provide fire, rescue and medical services to the community of approximately 620 residences. The area covers roughly 177 square miles, beginning at mile marker 10 on Highway 200, near Johnsrud, and extending east to the Powell County line. It also runs from the Nine-Mile Prairie to the north to the crest of the Garnet Mountains to the south.

The Missoula Board of County Commissioners established the fire department in 1993, under Montana Code Annotated (MCA) 7-33-2104. According to MCA 7-33-2106, appointment to fill a vacancy occurring during the term of office of a trustee must be made by the county governing body, and the appointee shall hold office until the next trustee election.

The deadline for applications is Saturday, Dec. 7. Applications are available online at  https://www.missoulacounty.us/community/volunteer. For more information, contact the County Commissioners’ Office at 406-258-4877. All board vacancies are listed at https://www.missoulacounty.us/community/current-vacancies.
