Lady Blackhawks win Class C State Championship

The Seeley-Swan High School Lady Blackhawks Cross Country team won the Class C State Championship Oct. 26 in Great Falls. Pictured (L-R): Coach Zelda Haines, Emily Maughan, Jayla Kauffman, Hannah Ayers, Sariah Maughan and Kyla Conley.

With temperatures hovering just below the 30 degree mark and snow on the course, the Seeley-Swan High School Lady Blackhawks flew to victory at the Class C State Cross Country meet in Great Falls, Oct. 26. They beat the two-time Class C State Champion West Yellowstone by six points after taking four of the top 10 places.

This is the fifth State Championship title for SSHS in Cross Country after it became a sanctioned sport in 1971. The Lady Blackhawks took the championship in 1973 and 1978. The Blackhawks were state champions in 1973 and 1981. The distance in 1973 was 1.5 miles. From 1976-...
