Blackhawks finish regular season, head to state

MISSOULA – The Blackhawk cross country team raced in their closest meet of the year at the Missoula City Meet held at Linda Vista Golf Course Oct. 15. They competed against the double A Schools and three other C Schools. With the quick turn around from the Arlee meet, the only Blackhawks to set new personal records were Sariah Maughan and Jayla Kauffman.

Maughan finished 17th out of a field of 113 girls in a time of 21:14.54, a 6:51 mile pace. Kauffman finished 85th in a time of 27:57.62, a 9:01 mile pace.

Emily Maughan led the Lady Blackhawks. She beat Drummond's Maddie Yakos to the finish by 0.09 seconds. Emily finished in 14th place with a time of 20:56.1, 6:45 mile pace.

Kyla Conley, after a pause on the course, finished third for the Lady Blackhawks with a time of 22:21.39, 7:13 mile pace. She finished 28th in the field.

Hannah Ayers was fourth on the team and placed 30th overall. She finished with a time of 22:32.45, 7.16 mile pace.

For the Boys, Chase Haines, in a much slower race than Arlee, finished 84th of 138 runners in the Boys Varsity. His time was 21:41.57, a 7 mile pace.

Levi Reinitz, also slower than his Arlee race, finished 100th in 23:09.01, 7:28 mile pace.

The Blackhawks team is looking forward to setting new PRs at the State Meet in Great Falls at the Eagle Falls Golf Course this Saturday, Oct. 26. The C Boys start at 11:30 a.m. and the C Girls race starts at 12:35 p.m.

Middle Schooler Sam Ayers posted his best finish in his last race of the season. He took 19th out of the field of 91 middle school boys. He also ran his fastest first mile of the season in 5:34. He slowed the second mile to finish in 13:19, 18 seconds short of his PR set in Arlee. He has worked hard running the high school workouts and has earned the good times he has posted.
