Setting the story straight - The Water District and Sewer District are separate

I just want to set the story straight once and for all. The Water District’s name and my name in particular keeps being brought up at the Sewer District’s meetings as well as in the newspaper in regards to the proposed sewer project.

A couple months ago I was falsely quoted at a Sewer District meeting as telling an individual that the Water District is expanding due to the Sewer District project, and consequently would be raising rates. TO SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT I DID NOT SAY THIS, NOR IS IT TRUE.

In the notices section of the Pathfinder dated September 12, 2019 there was an anonymous public notice which read, “Expansion needed for growth: The Water District can supply water only to its existing residents within its district’s boundaries. It must be expanded to meet any new growth caused by a sewer. This could cost millions. Tell the Sewer Board to stop.”

Firstly, I feel people who publish notices should include their name. Secondly, this was an absolutely false accusation against the Water District. The Water District is not expanding due to the Sewer District. Water and Sewer Districts have a set capacity, which cannot be exceeded and therefore they have a responsibility to limit growth. PLEASE GET THE FACTS AND DO NOT PUBLISH LIES.

The fact is that the Water District has no plans to expand. The Water District will not be raising our rates due to the Sewer District. For quite some time now, the Water District Board has had a moratorium on expanding the Water District boundaries. Our goal is to serve the customers within our District boundaries. We want to serve our customers to the best of our abilities and efficiently as possible, so as to not increase the rates. Any future rate increases implemented by the Water District would be to cover the normal cost of our operations.

For years now, I have commented that we have limited water rights. We are not able to expand the District to serve more customers because we do not have the required water rights to do so. The Water District Board and employees have no plans of expansion or changing our District. Our plan is to serve our customers to the best of our ability utilizing what we have.

Don’t believe everything you hear around town and don’t believe everything you read in this newspaper. There are numerous people giving false information around town and in this newspaper. It is your right to believe what you want to, but I encourage everyone to get the facts. Please call and ask questions.

The Water District and the Sewer District are two separate entities. What the Sewer District does in no way changes who we are at the Water District. We will not modify our way of business due to the Sewer District. If you have questions in regard to the Water District please call me, Vincent Chappell the Water District Manager, at 677-2559. I will give you the honest facts with regard to the Water District.
