Public invited to participate in SLE superintendent selection, July 29

SEELEY LAKE – The Seeley Lake Elementary School District Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the following finalists for the position of SLE District Superintendent.

Daniel Schrock has been the Superintendent and K-12 Principal of Ekalaka, Mont. since 2016. He previously served as the Dean of Students and Activities Director in Dillingham, Alaska. Schrock holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education from Northern Michigan University and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Montana State University.

Leland Stocker was most recently the Superintendent of the Belgrade School District in Belgrade, Mont. Prior to joining the Belgrade School District, Stocker was an Assistant Superintendent in Havre, Mont. and the Superintendent of the Gardiner School District in Gardiner, Mont. Stocker holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Distributive Education from Central Washington University and a Master’s Degree in Teaching Business Education from Portland State University.

Jody “Doc” Welter was most recently the Principal of the McDermitt Combined Schools in McDermitt, Nev. Prior to serving as the Principal in McDermitt, Welter was the Assistant Principal of the Humboldt County School in Winnemucca, Nev. Welter has a Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology from the University of Montana and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Jones International University.

Kevin St. John was most recently the Administrator at Butte Central High School in Butte, Mont., from 2013-2018. Prior to serving as the Administrator in Butte, St. John was the Superintendent of the Choteau Public Schools in Choteau, Mont. St. John holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Studies from Montana State University – Billings and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Montana State University.

Interviews for the four candidates will be held Monday, July 29 at SLE starting at 10 a.m. They will be one hour each in this order: Leland Stocker, Jody “Doc” Welter, Kevin St. John and Dan Schrock.

The interviews will be open to the public to observe. No public comments will be allowed during the interviews.

There will be a meet and greet with the community and the candidates from 2 – 3 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to attend.

At 3 p.m. the Board will convene in executive session to hear background checks. This portion is closed to the public.

The meeting will reopen following the executive session to entertain public comments, discuss and select SLE’s superintendent for the 2019-2020 school year.

The community is encouraged to attend. The formal selection of the superintendent will be made at a special Board meeting July 31 at 6 p.m.
