SEELEY LAKE - "I find that a Ginger's blend of Tibetan techniques, Indian postures and down home American values is always a tonic for what ails me!" said Matt George following Yoga on the Lake Saturday, June 29 led by Yoga Instructor Ginger Williams. Williams enjoys the opportunity to volunteer for the community event and share her love of yoga while in an outdoor setting.

Williams first led a free outdoor yoga class following a hike to Lake Dinah in 2016 in conjunction with the Wild 50 Fest. At the request of Bob Marshall Wilderness Festival Founder Chris Stout in 2017, she offered a yoga class on the lawn at Lindey's Prime Steak House Saturday morning of the Festival. It has continued for the past three years.

"I know there is a wide yoga community throughout Montana. I think people would like to wind down and relax or wake up, which ever they need to do," said Williams. "It offers something different to do."

Williams loves yoga because of what it does for her personal wellbeing. She has been a yoga instructor for the past 10 years.

Williams said yoga offers many benefits including: increased flexibility; enhanced immune system; improved mental health; body awareness and relaxation. She feels this mental awareness of the body extends beyond the class and makes participants more aware of what food they eat, someone's approach to stress and what goes through someone's mind affects their overall health.

"It just touches everything in your life," said Williams.

Many Seeley Lake residents that attend Williams' regular yoga classes attended the Saturday morning session on the lake. Williams said she has also had people attend who have never done yoga before.

Williams enjoys volunteering for the Yoga on the Lake because it helps support the community event. It is also a chance to do yoga outside.

"It's closer to nature, you can relax more and enjoy being outdoors," said Williams.

Williams designed the Yoga on the Lake class so all levels can participate.

"I'm very aware of people and how they are moving," said Williams. "[If there are issues] I help them adjust and modify poses. That is one of my main concerns with teaching."

George hopes next year they run a shuttle from the festival grounds to assist the groggy campers for this fun-on-the-lake session.

"I know that I will be doing yoga the rest of my life because I know how it helps me," said Williams. "It is just something I love doing."

Williams teaches yoga classes at Optimal Fitness Tuesdays and Thursdays. For more information call Optimal Fitness 677-7732.
