Pathfinder welcomes new reporter

When I was growing up, I wanted to go to school forever. I wanted to continue learning new things every day.

Luckily, my education led me to journalism where I get to learn something new with every assignment.

Through my undergraduate experience at the University of Montana School of Journalism I have found a love for community-focused storytelling on a variety of platforms. I'm excited to kick-off my professional career in your community as a reporter for the Seeley Swan Pathfinder.

I was born and raised in Helena, Mont. Growing up, I spent most of my time outdoors with my family hiking, camping and skiing.

In high school, my parents encouraged me to give a journalism class a try. From there, I began working for the school newspaper and taking photography classes. The decision to continue my education at the University of Montana School of Journalism was a natural next step.

I completed four capstone-reporting projects at the School of Journalism. In the spring of 2018, I was a multimedia producer for Native News, an honors capstone project. After I finished my work covering food sovereignty on the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation I packed my bags and headed to Seoul, South Korea for an international reporting capstone where I reported on the influence of politics on architecture and managed our social media accounts. I spent the rest of the summer working as a reporting intern for The Montana Standard in Butte, Mont.

During the fall semester of my senior year I served as a photo editor for the inaugural issue of Byline Magazine, an entirely student produced magazine capstone project. I capped off my senior year by returning to Native News as a multimedia editor where I helped shape multimedia content to best represent our coverage of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women crisis in Montana.

The School of Journalism empowered me to embrace and explore my unique perspective of being a Montanan. It allowed me to see my home state from a different lens and I am constantly looking for new stories so I can get to know Montana a little bit better.

Outside of journalism, I love to hike, run, mountain bike-really, outdoor recreation of any kind. I also love going to concerts, did you know I've been to over 200 live shows?

Anyways, enough about me, I am so excited to live in your community for the summer. I look forward to getting to know you!
