To hook to the sewer or not

SEELEY LAKE - If you have been unable to attend a sewer meeting since November 2018, you will never know what has gone on if you read the notes taken at the meetings.  They do not give you any detailed information.  I know the past president made sure the minutes were detailed for the public to read and be informed.

I recently spoke with the sewer’s lawyer asking him about information on the Users’ Agreement.  He said he couldn’t share with me, as it was a confidential matter.  He said he edited the agreement and sent it back to the board, assuming it will be on the agenda at the next sewer meeting.

This brings me to the MOST IMPORTANT INFORMATION, the USER AGREEMENT, that is due to BE DISCUSSED at the next sewer meeting, held on this Thursday, March 21, at 5:15 p.m. at the Satellite Station.  This could be your final chance to be heard on how the sewer district is planning on hooking you up, what your responsibilities will be, what you will have to pay, etc.  If you have concerns about the sewer, or are against it, you need to GET OFF THE COUCH and ATTEND this meeting.  Otherwise, you will be at the mercy of the sewer board and you know where most of its members stand.

When they present this information, you need to make sure that you are given copies of the draft and sufficient time to carefully study it. In reality, every property owner should be sent a copy of the draft.  INSIST ON IT.

It would be very irresponsible for the board to take a vote on this information without the public having time to read it, absorb it and to discuss it.  Plus, the summer residents should also have time to review it and ask questions.  A board vote on this critical document should not come before May or June.

Remember, you are talking about paying on the debt and operating and maintenance for 40 years or more, so think about protecting yourself.  Get to the board meetings and be heard.
