Missoula County seeks comment on area Land Use Map and Element Amendment

MISSOULA - The Missoula Area Land Use Map and Land Use Element is available for public and agency comment. It is proposed as an amendment to the Missoula County Growth Policy following three rounds of public outreach and a year of gathering feedback from local neighborhoods and stakeholders. A draft of the proposed land use map and land use element is available online at: http://www.MissoulaAreaMapping.com.

This amendment includes recent population projections, 15 new land use designations, implementation strategies and an updated land use map for the Missoula urban area outside the city limits that will guide how and where growth occurs over the next 20 years. It can be used to inform regulation updates and development review, plan for and extend infrastructure and guide coordination with partners.

The current 2016 Missoula County Growth Policy, a general guiding policy document, can be found on the CAPS website.

The Missoula Consolidated Planning Board will hold a public hearing on the proposed amendment Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 7 p.m. in the Missoula City Council Chambers located at 140 W Pine Street in Missoula. After the Planning Board has made a recommendation, the Board of County Commissioners will hold a final public hearing, at a later date, to act on the proposed Growth Policy amendment.

Your attendance and comments are welcome and encouraged. Comments may be directed to the Missoula County Community and Planning Services at CAPS@missoulacounty.us or CAPS, 200 W Broadway, Missoula, MT 59802.

Comments received by Jan. 4 will be included in the packet for Planning Board members. Questions about the draft proposal or this project, contact Andrew Hagemeier (ahagemeier@missoulacounty.us, 406-258-3707) or Christine Dascenzo (cdascenzo@missoulacounty.us, 406-258-3869).
