Skaters of all ages tried out the ice at the Seeley Lake ROCKS Community Ice Rink Grand Opening Saturday, Dec. 29. Some of the young skaters were from Bozeman and were in Seeley Lake visiting friends. They enjoyed the opportunity to get out on the rink, most of them skating for the first time.
Two-year-old Seraphina Arroyo wanted to skip the learning-to-skate part and go right to hockey. Lindsey Bona-Eggeman helped her out with her goal.

Three-year-old Avah enjoying her first skating experience with her dad Brandon Simon. Afterwards, with a frosted Christmas cookie in her hand, Avah said, "I had a lot of fun."
Some of the youngest children grew weary of falling down and took up shoveling for fun. Turns out it actually helped them with balance.
The skating rink is not just for kids. Lynne Rogers, Michel Baker and Patricia Bouta dusted off their old skates and proved the saying about riding a bike - your body remembers how to do it, no matter how long it has been.
SEELEY LAKE –Children and adults gathered Dec. 29 for the official opening of Seeley Lake ROCKS' new ice skating rink at the Seeley Lake Elementary School field. The Seeley Lake Lions Club supported the event with tables full of cookies and other treats, coffee, hot chocolate, a warming fire and a warm welcome for everyone. They also had a table of donated skates for use for free.
Like many of the younger children, six-year-old Virginia Arroyo found her first attempt at skating unsettling and she relied heavily on adult helpers for support. But it wasn't long before Arroyo could manage a few strides on her own. She even had advice for a girl about her same age who fell on the ice.
"You've got to feel your balance," said Arroyo. "You just can't give up. I fell a million times but you just can't give up."
ROCKS board member Garry Swain said the event went well and ROCKS appreciated the support of the Seeley Lake Lions Club. Summing up the three-hour opening event he said, "We were all thrilled with the turnout and how much fun everyone had."
