Local choirs participate in "The Last Best Noel" contest

MISSOULA – The Holy Cross Lutheran and Seeley-Swan High School choirs and Seeley-Swan Mountain Bells will all be contestants in the 93.3 Eagle Country "The Last Best Noel" contest starting Dec. 15 through Christmas Day. The community is invited to listen and vote online. Pepsi-Cola of Missoula will award $500 cash to the first place winner and $250 cash to the second place winner. The winners will be announced the week of Dec. 31.

SSHS music director Bob Green passed along the contest information to Shauna Anders, accompanist for the Holy Cross Lutheran Choir and Seeley-Swan High School choir. She decided it was a great opportunity to showcase the talent in Seeley Lake.

"Little Seeley Lake doesn't usually get any recognition," said Anders. "Our choirs sound really good this year."

The ten member choir at Holy Cross Lutheran church choir submitted four selections: "It's so Still in Bethlehem" by Ruth Schram; "On a Star Lit Night" arranged by Jill Gallina; "Sing a Glad Noel" by Mary Lynn Lightfoot and "Tacem, Dona Nobis Pacem" by Mary Lynn Lightfoot.

Anders chose to submit the SSHS Choir singing "Winter, Fire and Snow" arranged by Roger Emerson with Erika Wilson on cello. The students chose to submit "Mary, Did You Know?" words and music by Mark Lowry and Buddy Greene in which each member of the choir sings a solo.

The Seeley-Swan Mountain Bell choir is submitting "Music Box Noel," a compilation of carol themes arranged by Dan Edwards.

"It will be fun," said Anders. "It's not the winning, it's the doing and we get to hear ourselves on the radio."

Starting Dec. 15, visit http://933eaglecountry.com/a-missoula-christmas/ to vote. Beginning at 6 p.m. Christmas Eve throughout Christmas Day, 93.3 Eagle Country will broadcast all the performances for the community to enjoy.
