Trailer park, flashing speed signs and childhood trauma at next council meeting

SEELEY LAKE - The next meeting of the Seeley Lake Community Council Monday, Nov. 12 again promises an ambitious agenda.

The meeting will start with County Commissioner Jean Curtiss swearing-in the new Council member Tom Browder who is filling the vacancy left by Lee Bowman’s move to Missoula. This will be Curtiss’ last official visit to the Council. She will also give a brief retrospective covering the highpoints of her 18-year service as a Commissioner.

Next on the agenda are Claire Muller, Executive Director of the Community Foundation, and Angela Harris, Social Worker at Seeley Lake Elementary School. They will speak about childhood trauma and its impact, following the seminar that was held last week.

Rachel Feigley, Seeley Lake District Ranger, will give her last update on Forest Service activities before assuming a new position with the Forest Service.

Following, Sindie Kennedy, the Missoula County Grants Administrator, will give a brief overview of the opportunity in rehabilitating brownfields. The County is applying for a grant for this project. Brownfields are former industrial or commercial sites whose future use is affected by environmental contamination.

Next is the proposed RV Park off Highway 83 and east of Riverview Drive. Brandon Grosvenor, the developer, has confirmed his attendance. He will discuss the specifics of the project and is asking for community input.

The final agenda item on the agenda is a proposal by Council member Bruce Friede to install two flashing speed limit signs in Seeley Lake. Friede explained that “there should be two radar-operated speed limit signs that will replace or be added to the 25 mph speed limit signs: one on the southbound lane just north of Cedar Lane and one on the northbound lane by Clearwater River Realty.” Friede continued, “These signs give the current speed of the vehicle the radar unit is pointed at and continue to follow the speed until that vehicle slows to below the posted speed limit. The County has installed two of these signs in Bonner, and they work very well.”

Like always, there will be an opportunity for public comments on non-agenda items.

The informal part of the meeting will start at 5:30 p.m. next Monday, Nov. 12, at the Seeley Lake Historical Museum and Visitor’s Center, 2920 Highway 83, with pizza and water. The formal meeting begins at 6 p.m.
