SEELEY LAKE – The Seeley Lake Historical Society turned 20 years old Oct. 20. If corporations have personhood it must be a birthday or is it an organizational anniversary?
The Seeley Lake Historical Society is a non-profit corporation of volunteers who are “Fostering knowledge and understanding of history in the Seeley Lake area.”
The Historical Society collects, preserves and interprets stories, objects and materials related to the land, the natural resources, the people and the events that touched the Seeley Lake area.
The group continues to maintain and improve a great little museum featuring local collections for local, regional, state, national and international visitors. The museum collects, preserves and interprets objects from early Native American to the present in order to present a coherent and total picture. These objects and informational materials are made available for study and enjoyment of all in a pleasant, secure, safe and accessible setting. Volunteers who are learning and sharing our history run the museum.
In 2019 SLHS will continue making history by reconstructing a 100-year old log cabin at the museum site, documenting neighborhood history, and expanding volunteer opportunities to involve more people.
