Democrats must come back to real issues

In the last couple of weeks, we have all seen the videos of Liberal protesters screaming and throwing bottles at cars outside of the Supreme Court chambers and the Capitol. Senators home addresses and phone numbers being released and followed up with death threats. Sen. Corey Gardeners wife was sent a death threat with a video of someone being beheaded. Videos of Democratic legislators and activists telling groups of protesters to harass Republican legislators at home and where they eat, “don’t let them have a moment of peace” was the common pitch. But this is Washington D.C., sure it’s nasty and childish and extreme but at least we don’t have to deal with it in Montana, right?

Well this last week, members of the Democratic Socialists of America (an activist arm of the Democratic party) stormed the Republican office in Missoula. They said they wanted women to be respected and safe, so they brought 12 angry men screaming into a building to lock down an office being ran by two women, sounds somewhat backwards to me. With about 40 total protesters at the office, they climbed on the roof of the building screaming and yelling, and the police had to be called to make sure that it did not escalate from there.

Democrats have a problem and many of them know it. A lot of their activists have become extremists who genuinely hate and wish ill on people who oppose them politically. This isn’t Montana. In the Legislature, I have worked with Democrats on issues like Infrastructure, Education, Public Safety and Veterans Healthcare. But these Democrats don’t run the party in Montana. In fact, most Democrats who are willing to work with Republicans in the legislature are penalized by their Party’s leadership.

We have a real choice in this election. The Republican Party is focused on the economy and jobs. National unemployment is at 3.9 percent, the lowest in 49 years. Republicans are focused on saving Montana industry like timber and mining, industries that provide good wages and keep our rural communities going. Republicans are focused on balanced, responsible budgets that provide funding for our essential services without adding additional tax burdens on the Montana taxpayer.

Democrats need to come back to the real issues and move away from this mob mentality that we have seen over the past few weeks and they shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near the levers of power until they do.
