Lady Blackhawks sweep the week

The Seeley-Swan Lady Blackhawks were busy winning last week defeating Granite, Darby and the Clark Fork Coop. The Ladies now sport a 6-0 in conference record and are 9-3 overall.

They started the week hosting Granite Oct. 2. The Lady Blackhawks came out swinging putting Granite down 25-9 in game one and finished them off 25-20 and 25-16 to take the match in three games.

Klaire Kovatch led with 11 kills and 2 stuff blocks while Autumn Morse led in aces with 4 and assists with 14. Ashley Miller led with 7 digs and Bethany Hoag had the team's only block.

The Ladies then headed to Darby to take on the Tigers, one of the top teams in the conference. They overcame the Tigers in just three games, 25-18, 27-25 and 25-14.

Lady Blackhawks Head Coach Tammy Lewis said the Tigers can be super scrappy and felt that a three game victory was a real achievement for the Lady Blackhawks.

"Games one and three were won with strong net play from Kovatch and Sariah Maughan and some great defense from Morse and Miller," said Lewis.

Lewis credited Hoag's ferocity at the net and key serves from Taylor Dillree for the victory in the game two.

The Lady Blackhawks then hosted the Mountain Cats from the Clark Fork Coop Oct. 6.

The Cats are another formidable district foe and proved to be a handful putting the Lady Blackhawks down 23-25 in the first game. The Ladies fought right back to take the second game 25-18, battled to a 26-24 win in game three and sealed the deal in the fourth game 25-20.

Morse led the Ladies with 4 aces, 24 digs, 20 assists and she and Miller had 8 kills each. Kovatch and Maughan each had 4 blocks and joined Miller for 1 stuff block each.

With only four conference matches left before district tournaments, Lewis is happy with how the team is shaping up. She said in seasons past she felt that the team relied too heavily on two or three players. This year they have been working toward having many 'go to' players and it is starting to show. Freshmen and sophomore players have accepted and risen to the challenge.

This week the Lady Blackhawks host Lincoln Oct. 11 at 5:30 p.m. and head to Victor Oct. 13 with games starting at 4 p.m.
