Alpine Artisan's Open Book Club features Lady Long Rider

SEELEY LAKE - Please join us as Bernice Ende, Lady Long Rider, makes her second appearance at Alpine Artisan's Open Book, Thursday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. at the Grizzly Claw Trading Company. She will be presenting a slide show and discussing her recent book "Lady Long Rider" which chronicles her 28,000 miles on horseback crisscrossing the continent. There is no charge for this event and all are welcome.

As a fearless young girl on her parents' dairy farm in Minnesota, Ende loved to gallop bareback through pastures and cornfields. Her daring spirit was set.

At the age of 51 she set out from her home in Trego, Mont. headed for New Mexico, a journey of 2,000 miles on horseback. To many this sounds like a crazy but thrilling dream or pure hardship and exhaustion. According to Ende, this trip was all that and more.

Since that first trip, she has logged more than 28,000 miles riding with her horses and her dog as her only companions. Along the way she discovered that a sense of community and love of place unites people wherever they live. While these rides can be dangerous (she does carry a gun) and she has met with hostility, she has mostly encountered support and praise.

Ende is a captivating presenter with many adventures to share. Please join us for what promises to be a fascinating evening. Seeley-Swan High School senior Kyle Peltier will present his Poetry-Slam winning poem prior to Ende's reading.
