Board training comes to Seeley Lake

SEELEY LAKE – All volunteers who serve on public boards in Missoula County are invited to attend the Missoula County Board Training in Seeley Lake, Sept. 25 from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Seeley Lake Historic Museum and Visitor's Center. This training is provided by the Missoula County Commissioners and will feature guest speaker Dan Clark with the MSU Extension Local Government Center.

"Whether you're new to serving on a public board or have served on a board for many years, the Montana State University Local Government Center board training is a great opportunity to learn the ins and outs of effective board operations," wrote Missoula County Commissioner Dave Strohmaier in an email. "Too often, boards and committees stumble when it comes to interpersonal dynamics and personalities. Learning the foundations of board functioning within the context of state law and parliamentary procedure, not to mention, brushing up on how best to keep focused on the mission of the board rather than individual agendas, is critical to serving the public."

Typically the training is held in Missoula. However, Strohmaier said that because the county is large, "this year we felt it important to ensure that residents in the northeast portion of Missoula County have easy access to the training rather than having to drive all the way to Missoula."

Clark will discuss topics including: social media, ethics and nepotism, meeting minutes, open meetings, parliamentary procedure, principles of good governance, the public's right to know and participate and rules of procedure. The training is free to all current Missoula County board members and staff.

To attend, please RVSP by Sept. 18 to Sarah Bell, 406-258-4230 or email sbell@missoulacounty.us
