God is wise

I still enjoy visiting libraries. I appreciate the opportunity to borrow books without having to purchase them and being exposed to various titles that I was not aware of. But part of me (a small part) misses the nostalgia of the little card catalog drawers. Back in the “olden days,” with covered wagons and the pony express…we searched for information on card catalog cards according to subject, author and title.

Nowadays, it is common (yes, for myself) to simply search on the Internet. Admittedly this is a faster and easier way to find information. In just a short amount of time, a wealth of information can be discovered.

In my articles, I have been focusing on the attributes of God. From the Bible, we understand that God is wise.

Searching for information, whether by card catalog or through online searches…is a way to search out practical and useful information. But wisdom is more than information…instead guidance that is both truthful and accurate. We naturally want to seek out advice that is perfect and useful for our lives. We want our advice to be wise, instead of unwise.

We can rest in the fact that God is the source of perfect wisdom. The Bible is God’s instruction book for every area of our lives. The source of scripture is the very words of God. Therefore, the wisdom from God is not just another source of sage advice but trustworthy wisdom from the Lord.

The Bible tells us in Proverbs 2:6 (NLT) “For the LORD grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.”

Wisdom from God is not just another source of advice to choose from but the perfect instruction directly from God that we can trust in and follow with our lives. We should always seek the Lord’s wisdom for every area of our lives. We also read in the Bible that the Lord encourages us to come to Him first for wisdom. James 1:5 (NIV) “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault and it will be given to him.”

That we can come to the Lord for perfect wisdom, this is because God is infinitely wise Himself. God is the ultimate and greatest source of wisdom and understanding. In a world of competing truth claims and false sources of wisdom, we can always trust our wise God to direct our steps.
