Equipment Upgrades and New Supporting Groups

Seeley Lake Fire Board

SEELEY LAKE – The Seeley Lake Fire Board continues through policy updates and was informed of new groups to help support the fire department at their March 20 meeting.

Thanks to the Montana Community Foundation $15,000 grant, 13 new turnouts, six new BK radios and accessories, four mobile truck radios and 18 new high visibility jackets were purchased.

Board Chair Scott Kennedy said that they are continuing to work through the policy updates. Next on the list is blood borne pathogens and the district’s harassment policy.

The volunteer membership met and appointed a representative to be present at the board meeting.

“This is an informal group with no formal format,” said Kennedy, “It is just to be a voice for the volunteers as needed and is not an entity.”

Randy Gazda was the volunteer representative. He thanked Cory Calnan for putting on the Firefighter 1 course for the department. He added it was a great chance to interact with Lincoln, Potomac and Ovando.

The board also looked through the Seeley Fire Auxiliary application for membership and said everything appeared to be in order.

In other business:

• The District received another $36,000 for the ambulance’s services during the Rice Ridge fire.

• The new Fire Chief Dave Lane has executed the employment agreement.

• After meeting with Missoula County Human Resources, Kennedy requested the board rescind the Disciplinary Actions section of the Operations Manual, “Because [Human Resources] didn’t like how it was written and asked that we do away with that, rework it and resubmit it to the county attorney and back to HR for approval.” The board unanimously voted to rewrite the section and submit it to the county attorney prior to approval.

The next regularly scheduled meeting is April 17 at 6 p.m. at the Fire Hall at 200 Firehouse Lane. Kennedy said that there would be additional meetings before the monthly meeting but did not have a date or time. All meetings are noticed on the department’s webpage, http://www.seeleylake.com.
