Don't Get Fired Up – Remember to Clean Your Chimney

SEELEY LAKE – It’s that time of year to make sure your chimney is cleaned and ready for winter. The Seeley Lake Volunteer Fire Department responded to a chimney fire on Double Arrow Saturday afternoon. While there was no structure damage to the home, it is a good reminder for everyone who burns wood to inspect and clean their chimneys.

According to Fire Chief Michael Greer, the fire had died down by their arrival.

“It took little involvement on our part,” said Greer. “We just put out the fire in the firebox to make sure it had died completely.”

The volunteer firefighters advised the owners of the importance of yearly chimney cleaning.

“Lodgepole, which is most people’s primary fuel for wood burning around here, burns dirty so yearly chimney cleaning is even more important,” said Greer. They also highlighted the importance of getting a professional inspection of the chimney after ANY chimney fire to check for damage or breach of the pipe. “Missing that could be disastrous later,” added Greer.

The Seeley Lake Fire department offers chimney brushes that area residents can check out and return at no cost.
