Blackhawks Battle the Forks

The Seeley-Swan Blackhawks and Lady Blackhawks took on Big Fork and Clark Fork last week. Class B Big Fork outclassed both teams Dec. 5. While the Boys found success against the Clark Fork Mountain Cats, the Girls fell to the district foe Dec. 9.

The Boys ran into a wall at Big Fork early in the game, falling behind 6-29 in the first quarter. They struggled through much of the game till the final frame where they were able to cut just 7 points from Big Forks lead. The final score was 29-66.

Keaton Johnson led the Blackhawks' attempt at Big Fork with 9 points. He hit the team's only three pointer and was 100 percent from the free throw line with 4 for 4. Avery Smith, Cordell Turner and Cameron Haines were also 100 percent from the free throw line. Overall the Boys were 10 for 11 on free throws.

Also scoring: Haines 7, Chance Johnson 4, Smith 4, Owen Mercado 2, Turner 2 and Dakota Wood 1.

The Lady Blackhawks met a similar fate at Big Fork. They fell back 11 points in the first quarter and the punishment never let up to the final score of 32-68.

Ashley Miller led the team with 12 points. The Ladies did find some success from the three-point line with Autumn Morse and Miller each hitting a pair of them and Terra Bertsch hitting one of her own. The Lady Blackhawks struggled from the free throw line hitting only 1 out of 10.

Also scoring: Morse 8, Klaire Kovatch 5, Bertsch 3, Chloe Robbins 2 and Taylor Dillree 2.

In the first home game of the season the Boys thumped the Mountain Cats. By the half the Boys were leading 30-15. The Cats picked up their pace in the second half but the Blackhawks held on to a final score of 45-66.

Smith led the Blackhawks scoring 13 of his 16 points in the first half. Three other Blackhawks broke into the double digits with Haines scoring 11, Keaton Johnson 10 and Chance Johnson 10. The team hit 8 of 17 attempted free throws with Hunter Shelmerdine and Haines hitting 100 percent.

Also scoring: Turner 7, Wood 4, Hunter Sokoloski 4, Mercado 2 and Shelmerdine 2.

The Lady Blackhawks got off to a slow start against the Mountain Cats only putting up 3 points in the first quarter to the Cats' 9. By the half time buzzer the Ladies tied the game up. The Cats once again gained momentum in the third quarter putting the Lady Blackhawks down 12 points. The final frame went to the Lady Blackhawks but they were unable to catch the Cats. The final score was 33-39.

Robbins led the Ladies with 11 points. Morse, Miller and Bethany Hoag each hit three pointers while the team hit just 6 of 19 from the free throw line.

Also scoring: Kovatch 8, Miller 5, Bertsch 3, Morse 3 and Hoag 3.

This Week

The Blackhawks and Lady Blackhawks host Arlee Dec. 12 with JV Girls starting at 3 p.m. The teams then head to Valley Christian Dec. 15. The JV Boys start with a half game at 4 p.m. and there is no girls JV game.
