RTP and OHV Grant Applications Open

HELENA – Montana State Parks (stateparks.mt.gov) opened the application cycle for the Recreational Trails Program (RTP) and the Off-Highway Vehicle Program (OHV) Nov. 9 through the online system at fundingmt.org. The application deadline for both grants will be Feb. 1, 2018 at 5 p.m.

Recreational Trails Program training sessions will be offered throughout Montana for all prospective applicants on the following dates: 

• Nov. 29, 10 a.m.–1 p.m.: Bozeman – FWP Region 3 Conference Room

• Dec. 1, 10:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m.: Helena—FWP Annex Building Conference Room

• Dec. 6, 1-4 p.m.: Kalispell—FWP Region 1 Conference Room—1-4 p.m.

• Dec. 7, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.: Missoula—FWP Region 2 Conference Room

RTP and OHV program applicants can include federal, state, county or municipal agencies, private associations and clubs (not individuals).

Eligible projects for RTP include: development of trail linkages near homes and work places; construction and maintenance of trails; development of trailside and trailhead facilities; trail-related education and interpretive programs; and weed control along trails and trailhead areas. 

OHV eligible projects include, but are not limited to: maintenance of existing OHV trails; signing; ethics education; noxious weed control adjacent to OHV trails and route mapping.

Montana State Parks manages the annual RTP grant program which administers federal funding with oversight from the Federal Highway Administration. The OHV grant program is funded through monies appropriated by the State Legislature. These funds come from an eighth of one percent of the state gas tax, registration decal fees and non-resident permit fees.
