Seeley-Swan High School Leos Club Turkey Drive, Nov. 17

SEELEY LAKE – In the spirit of giving, the Seeley-Swan High School Leos Club will be collecting turkeys Friday, Nov. 17 from 4-6 p.m. at various locations in Seeley Lake. All donations collected will be distributed through the Seeley-Swan Community Food Bank.

Leo Club members will be at Rovero’s, Cory’s Valley Market and the Seeley Lake Post Office on Friday to collect donated turkeys. Their goal is to collect 25 turkeys. The club asks that the turkeys are frozen. Money will also be accepted.

Leos Club President Ibby Lorentz said they chose this as a service project because there is no longer a community Thanksgiving dinner in Seeley Lake.

“The Seeley Lake Lions Club does a food drive for Christmas,” said Lorentz. “We thought Thanksgiving would be a good time to give back.”

Powell County Planning Board Tables Proposed Amendment for Cottonwood Gravel Pit

SEELEY LAKE - The Powell County Planning Board tabled the request from the Double Arrow Landowner Association Board of Directors to allow Evergreen Drive to be used as a gravel haul route at their Nov. 9 meeting. The amendment requests the route only be used when Deer Creek Excavating, LLC provides gravel for Double Arrow Ranch projects.

Powell County Planner Carl Hamming said the board wanted to make sure they were staying within their bounds of jurisdiction and not putting requirements on Missoula County roads that were not legal. While the board took no action, Hamming said they discussed drafting language that would make them more comfortable amending condition three of the approved Conditional Use Permit while still addressing and mitigating the concerns of the Double Arrow landowners that live on Evergreen Drive.

This will be a discussion item on the agenda for the Dec. 7 Planning Board meeting. A vote to change the condition would require a public hearing which would not happen until January 2018.

All public hearings are noticed on the Powell County website http://www.powellcountymt.gov, in the Silver State Post and adjacent landowners will be notified.
