First Friday Kicks Off in Seeley Lake

SEELEY LAKE – The Seeley Lake Elementary School, Filling Station and Seeley Lake Area Chamber of Commerce have teamed up to launch a family-friendly First Friday in Seeley Lake starting Oct. 6. The intent of the event is to have something fun for the community of Seeley Lake and visitors to enjoy during the winter and help boost the economy.

SLE Superintendent Chris Stout came up with the idea to bring a band into the school during lunch. Following lunch, the band will do a workshop/performance for the students starting at 1 p.m.

“We do the Alpine Artisans stuff and the kids love it and with some of the connections I’ve been able to make, I wanted to get something fun going at the school,” said Stout. “I thought it would only make sense that we would do something in the community that evening.”

Kris Martin owner of the Filling Station jumped on board. She said she would be happy to host the band for an evening concert on the first Friday of the month. The concert will be free admission.

The Seeley Lake Area of Chamber of Commerce is also excited to team up with SLE and the Filling Station and line up a featured business of the month. The business will host an open house or event of their choice on the first Friday of the month.

Good Old Fashioned out of Missoula will play the inaugural event starting at SLE during the lunch hour from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and do a workshop for students starting at 1 p.m. They will also play a community concert at the Filling Station starting at 8 p.m.

This month, Tamaracks Resort is the featured business. They are hosting an Open House for the community from 3:30-5:30 p.m. with snacks and drinks provided. Throughout the entire day and during the open house, all items in their gift shop are 10 percent off. Weather permitting they will rent kayaks and canoes for half price and attendees are encouraged to bring their dogs on a leash and check out the dog park.

“We want people to come out, check out the business and see what they have to offer,” said Lisa Hayhurst, the Seeley Lake Chamber Executive Director. “We are trying to get the community to come together as a family. We need to stand strong together and be there to support each other and try to make this more of a positive environment after all the fires.”

Stout welcomes ideas for bands to ask to play for the community. He can be reached at 406-396-5880.

Hayhurst is looking for businesses that would like to be the featured business of the month. The only requirements are she would like them to do something at their place of business, on the first Friday of the month before the band plays at the Filling Station. What they do is completely up to the business owners. She asks owners to contact her so they can sign up for the month they prefer by calling the Chamber office at 677-2880 or email slchamber@blackfoot.net
