Blackhawks Back on the Home Field

SEELEY LAKE - The smoke lifted and the Blackhawks returned to their home field to host the Twin Bridges Falcons Sept. 16.

The Blackhawks came out strong, stopping the Falcons' opening drive and holding them to just one touchdown in the first quarter.

The Falcons scored another touchdown early in the second quarter. The Blackhawks answered right back with Dakota Wood returning the kickoff 60 yards for a touchdown.

Two more Falcon touchdowns in the second quarter brought the score to 6-30 at the half.

The Blackhawks again came out strong after the halftime break. The defense made a big stop holding the Falcons at the 10-yard line and recovering the punt at the 30.

After a short four-yard run, Logan Maughan ran the remaining 26 yards for the Blackhawks' second touchdown. Maughan ran in the two-point conversion as well.

Maughan's touchdown would be the last of the Blackhawks' points while the Falcons scored three more times before the "honk" of the buzzer. Final score was 14-50.

Blackhawks Head Coach Ryan Sokoloski said the team is still lacking physical conditioning due to the limited practices from the smoke. This week was the first time they had gotten some decent practices in. Sokoloski said the team has been getting a lot of compliments from both opposing coaches and referees on how well they are playing despite the lack of full practices.

"We're working through it. The kids are keeping their heads up," said Sokoloski.

The Blackhawks next game is at home against Darby, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. Seniors will be recognized as it is the last scheduled home game for the varsity team. There will also be a tailgate party with a Sloppy Joe Dinner for $5 sponsored by the Booster Club. Booster Club members eat free.
