Lady Blackhawks Soar over Eagles and Tangle with Cats

The Seeley-Swan Lady Blackhawks got back to work on the court after being forced to skip a match against Charlo and miss nearly a week’s worth of practices. They took on Valley Christian Sept. 8 and the Clark Fork Co-op Sept. 9.

The Valley Christian Eagles proved they could still put up a fight even after graduating their star hitter last year.

The Lady Blackhawks took the first game 25-10 but dropped the second game to the Eagles 11-25. The Ladies answered back with a 25-19 win in game three. The Eagles tied it back up winning game four, 23-25. The Lady Blackhawks weren’t going home empty handed and took game five and the match with a solid 15-9.

Lady Blackhawks Head Coach Tammy Lewis credited strong serving and good defense for the victory.

Emily Mercado scored 5 of the teams 14 aces while Ashley Miller and Taylor Dillree led with 12 digs each. Miller also led with 8 kills and Autumn Morse had 9 assists. Freshman Klaire Kovatch had 2 stuff blocks.

The Lady Blackhawks traveled to Superior to take on the Mountain Cats of the Clark Fork Co-op.

The Cats put the Lady Blackhawks down early with two games 18-25. The Ladies dug themselves out in game three and pulled off a 26-24 win before falling 21-25 in game four.

Five Lady Blackhawks dug into the double digits for digs. Autumn Morse led with 19 of the team’s 80 total digs. Morse also led with 3 aces and was joined by Ashley Miller for 5 assists each. Miller and Klaire Kovatch each had 5 kills.

This week Coach Lewis hopes to step up the quality as well as the quantity of practices back in their own gym, providing the air quality in Seeley Lake improves.

The limited practices have also impacted eligibility of a handful of players. In the next two weeks Lewis hopes to have all 17 players cleared for matches.

The Ladies head to Victor Sept. 15 with the JV starting at 5:30 p.m. Then, depending on smoke, the Lady Blackhawks host Lincoln Sept. 16 with a single match starting at 5 p.m. The Homecoming parade and dance have been postponed.
