The spot, about a half mile northeast of the Wilderness Sportsman Gun Range at the northend of the Seeley Lake Airport, was discovered Friday night. Crews put in direct line and are mopping it up today.
SEELEY LAKE - The Rice Ridge Fire spotted northeast of the Seeley Lake Airport in Section 30. This is a new development overnight and the spot was not on the map last night.
Night operations located the spot about a half mile northeast from the Gun Range and began direct line construction early this morning. Crews will continue to hold the spot fire and perform mop up throughout the day. The fuel type is primarily grass and operations seems confident that they will be able to limit growth throughout the day.
According to the incident commander one of the criteria for lifting the evacuation order is a 24-hour period with no spotting activity. Based upon that criteria it would be a minimum of 24 hours before the evacuation would lift.
