MISSOULA - Potomac Valley 4H members wagon-wheeled right through the 2017 Western Montana Fair with projects ranging from cowboy poetry to leathercraft to English horsemanship, flashlights, hogs, and rabbits in between.
The variety of all county and out of county 4-H projects came to a finish during fair week Aug. 8 – 13 while the animals and exhibit projects were judged.
The judging for 4-H projects began with archery including primitive, bow hunter and Olympic recurve competitions throughout the spring with poster judging during fair week.
July brought ropes, cows, kids and horses together for the Ranch Horse competition outside of Arlee as well as the 4-H fair horseshow July 29 and 30. Potomac's horse group had English and western riders of all levels as well as trail projects, packing, mintature horse, showmanship and colt to maturity.
In the Potomac Valley 4-H Club, it was almost a match with more than 33 projects entered by the 31 members.
Potomac Valley 4-H Club Results: 4-H uses the Danish system in the judging process. Top ribbons include grand and reserve champion, followed by a purple group (P – top in their class), blue group (B), red group (R) and white group (W – participation ribbon) according to the placing received. The letter following each project indicates ribbon received.
